Indications after surgery
Any operation performed in the mouth produces a series of reactions that must be monitored to ensure that recovery is easy and immediate. There is, for this reason, advice and more specific indications to be respected each time you submit to such treatment. Here are some general guidelines that must be strictly followed:
· Moderate physical daily efforts and avoid sports for a few days
· Chew on the opposite side of the intervention
· Eating soft and warm foods
· Use a mouthwash with 0.20% of chlorhexidine for 2-3 times a day rinsing delicately
-Do not use a toothbrush and/or an inter-dental brush in the area subjected to surgery
-Take pain medication as needed or as directed, preferably after meals
· Do not take acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin)
· Do not smoke
Moderate swelling is considered a normal reaction of tissues near the surgery, in the following days a slight increase in temperature may occur and the presence of bruising.
It is best to consult your dentist if these symptoms persist or worsen, so he can assess the need of further alternative treatment.
There are also some operations that need special instructions:
· Taking antibiotics for at least 5 days (follow the prescription)
· Application of ice the day of surgery for a minimum of 2 hours
· Gently blowing your nose for a week or sneeze with your mouth open
· Application of moist gauze if bleeding persists
· Removing periodontal pack after 3 days
· Sleep with your head elevated on one or two pillows and on the non operated side
Patients who use further medication are requested to inform their dentist to prevent side effects caused by the use of antibiotics or painkillers. For any questions or concerns you can contact the dental clinic.
